Feature Tracker
I’m currently working on a major new version of the datatool package. This may take a while. Please be patient. (Experimental version available for testing.)

Description
Hello,Glossary entries are usually used (by \gls) with different times in a document. Thus, the number of "page numbers" following each entry is different (might be too long). The package option "indexonlyfirst=true" can restrict page numbers of each entry to 1. However, I want to restrict them to 3 at most. Could you redesign the package option "indexonlyfirst" so that it accepts an integer number instead of a Boolean value, and it restrict page numbers to e.g. 3 at most by "indexonlyfirst=3?"
MWE
No mwe.tex
Evaluation
I think that would be too complicated to implement. It's not just a matter of counting the number of times \gls
has been used. For example, it may be used three times on one page, which leads to just one location. Neither makeindex nor xindy have this capability, and the location lists created by them are difficult for TeX to parse. Since you're using glossaries-extra, it's simpler to use the noindex
option in \gls
and only index the places that are pertinent. For example, like sample-altmodifier.tex.
