glossaries package FAQ

Is it possible for an entry to have a name and an associated symbol? 🔗

Yes, just use the name key for the term and the symbol key for the symbol. See Gallery: Units (glossaries.sty) for an example. If you want the symbol to also appear in the text when you use commands such as \gls, then you can redefine \glsentryfmt or use \defglsentryfmt (those two commands are new to version 4.0).

With glossaries-extra, it’s possible to use the post-link hook to automatically append the symbol, which is simpler than redefining \glsentryfmt. See Gallery: Units (glossaries-extra.sty) for an example.
