The Private Enemy Third Edition 🔗

Three paperback editions stacked upright, one in front of the other.
The Private Enemy editions: first (back, 140mm x 216mm, gloss), second (middle, 120mm x 190mm, gloss) and third (front, 140mm x 216mm, matt).
The third edition of The Private Enemy will be available as from 31st August 2026. This edition has returned to the 140mm x 216mm size of the first edition (published in 2014), but the margins are much smaller and the cream paper of both the first and second editions has been changed to groundwood. This has made the third edition thinner and lighter to reduce costs. Unfortunately print costs and shipping costs have skyrocketed over the past few years (as with so many other things). With booksellers taking 40% and the print and distribution costs totalling over 50%, there’s not much margin, but these changes have at least brought the price down a little. The other change is that I’m trying out a matt cover instead of gloss. I’ve also corrected a few little errors (which are now also corrected in the ebook edition).

If you haven’t yet come across The Private Enemy, it’s a crime/speculative fiction novel set in a technologically regressed future where the Anti-Technology League collide with demands to restore former levels of technology, rival gangsters battle for dominance, and government agencies are determined to reinforce their message that the world is united in peace and prosperity — by any means necessary. Into this mix comes the last of the Coulgranes of Wynherne, hell-bent on revenge.

If the print price is still to high for you, the ebook version is considerably cheaper and is available from a number of ebook outlets, such as SmashWords, Kobo, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, and Overdrive.

Now that I’ve finished sorting out the third edition of The Private Enemy, I can get back to The Fourth Protectorate.
